Overview

A course, not a session.

Scarring is textural: the skin has healed at a different level from the skin around it. Treating it means prompting the skin to rebuild over time, which is why it is planned as a course rather than sold as a single session.

Laser skin resurfacing and microneedling are the main treatments, often used together, with chemical peels for surface texture and marks. Different scar types may need different approaches, so not every treatment suits every scar — and because every face responds differently, what yours can achieve is set out honestly at consultation.

Scar types

Not every scar is the same.

The type of scarring decides the approach. A clinician identifies which types you have before recommending anything — most people have more than one.

Ice-pick scars

  • Narrow, deep pits that look like small punctures
  • Often the hardest type to soften
  • Planned case by case, usually as part of a resurfacing course

Boxcar scars

  • Wider depressions with sharper, defined edges
  • Laser resurfacing and microneedling are commonly used over a course

Rolling scars

  • Broad, shallow dips that give skin a wavy, uneven look
  • Microneedling and resurfacing are commonly used; other options are discussed at consultation

Marks, not scars (PIH)

  • Flat brown or dark marks left after spots heal — a change in colour, not texture
  • Treated as pigment, often with peels or laser toning
  • More on dark spots & pigmentation

The treatment

How a course actually runs.

The same three steps every time, for acne scars as for everything else we do.

Step 01

Assessed, not sold to

A clinician looks at your skin or scalp, takes your medical history in person and tells you honestly what will — and will not — help. If the answer is “nothing yet”, that is what you will hear.

Step 02

Tested, then treated

Where a treatment needs one, a small area is tested first so the settings are chosen for your skin rather than guessed. Your plan, session count and total cost are agreed in writing before anything starts.

Step 03

Aftercare you can call on

You leave with written aftercare and a number to ring. A review is booked to check progress and adjust the plan if it needs it — that is where a course gets better, not on the first day.

Questions

Good to know.

Short answers to what people ask before booking acne scars.

Speak to the clinic

How long does it take?

Months rather than weeks. Scarring is treated over a course, and a realistic timescale for your skin is set out at consultation.

What treatments are used?

Laser skin resurfacing and microneedling are the main options, often together, with chemical peels for surface texture and marks. Which suit you depends on your scar types and is set at consultation.

Are dark marks the same as scars?

No. Flat brown or dark marks left after spots (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) are a change in colour, not in the skin’s surface, and they are treated as pigment rather than as scarring.

Is there downtime?

Expect redness for two or three days after each session. You get an honest estimate before you book, so you can plan around it.

Will my scarring go completely?

Every face responds differently, and we will not promise you an outcome we cannot evidence. What yours can realistically achieve is set out honestly at the consultation.

What are the risks?

Redness, swelling, temporary changes in pigment and, rarely, infection or scarring. These are gone through with you at consultation and given to you in writing.
