Overview

Treat the cause, not the spot.

Active acne and the marks it leaves behind are two different problems, and they are treated differently. The first job at consultation is working out which one you are dealing with, and what is driving it.

A plan may combine peels, laser and in-clinic treatment, and it is built around your skin type and history rather than a fixed package. Where a prescription-only medicine is appropriate, that starts with a prescriber.

  • Active acne and post-acne marks treated differently
  • Plan built around the cause
  • Skin type and history taken in person
  • Courses agreed in writing up front
  • Written aftercare and a review booked
  • If a treatment will not help, we say so

Understanding acne

Know the type, then treat it.

Acne starts in the hair follicle. Oil and dead skin cells block the pore, and Cutibacterium acnes — a bacterium that normally lives on the skin — drives the inflammation that follows. It takes several forms, and they are not treated the same way.

Blocked pores (comedones)

  • Whiteheads — closed, blocked pores that sit just under the skin
  • Blackheads — open, blocked pores that darken at the surface

Inflamed spots

  • Papules — small, red, tender bumps
  • Pustules — red bumps with a white or yellow centre

Deeper acne

  • Nodules — firm, painful lumps beneath the skin
  • Cystic acne — deep, pus-filled lumps that are more likely to scar
  • Deeper acne may need prescription treatment, assessed by a prescriber

How we plan your treatment

  • We check and assess the type of acne first
  • Then identify the reason behind it, from your skin type, history and routine
  • Then guide you with a treatment plan built for your skin

The treatment

How a course actually runs.

The same three steps every time, for acne as for everything else we do.

Step 01

Assessed, not sold to

A clinician looks at your skin or scalp, takes your medical history in person and tells you honestly what will — and will not — help. If the answer is “nothing yet”, that is what you will hear.

Step 02

Tested, then treated

Where a treatment needs one, a small area is tested first so the settings are chosen for your skin rather than guessed. Your plan, session count and total cost are agreed in writing before anything starts.

Step 03

Aftercare you can call on

You leave with written aftercare and a number to ring. A review is booked to check progress and adjust the plan if it needs it — that is where a course gets better, not on the first day.

Questions

Good to know.

Short answers to what people ask before booking acne.

Speak to the clinic

+44 7487 416555
Do you treat active acne or the marks it leaves?

Both, but not with the same plan. Settling active breakouts and improving post-acne marks are different jobs, and the consultation establishes which you need first.

How many sessions will I need?

Most skin courses run to three to six. You get a realistic number at consultation, agreed in writing before you commit.

What are the risks?

Depending on the treatment this can include redness, swelling, temporary changes in pigment or, rarely, infection or scarring. Your clinician goes through the specific risks for your skin at consultation and gives them to you in writing.

Will I be sold a course on the day?

No. Nothing is sold to you on the day. You leave the consultation with a written plan and a price, or with nothing to buy.

How much is the consultation?

Yes, and there is no obligation to book anything afterwards.
